We hope you are all surviving winter and now that we’ve passed the halfway mark towards spring, it’s time to turn up the heat! We’re excited to announce that we will finally be hosting a Mobile Payments themed Mobile Monday event. We have been working behind the scenes to get the “big guns” out to keynote this event, the wait is over.
We are proud to announce that we have secured VeriFone as headline sponsor for this event. VeriFone is the global leader in secure electronic payment solutions. Since 1981, VeriFone has designed and marketed system solutions that facilitate the long-term shift toward electronic payment transactions and away from cash and checks. VeriFone’s innovative payment solutions for mobile devices neatly position the organisation as the mobile payments innovator to watch out for. VeriFone operates in 110 countries around the world with 5000 employees and $1.9B in revenue in 2012. With statistics like that, they should know what they are talking about!
In terms of the “big guns”, we have Arthur Goldstuck who is regarded as South Africa’s foremost expert on internet and mobile technology trends and leads several major annual studies.
We also have Dougie Henderson, head of emerging products and innovation for Africa at Visa Inc. Dougie handles product management and strategy in areas such as EMV chip migration, advanced payments, and new technology deployments such as mobile, contactless payments and transit.
Lastly, Vodacom’s managing executive for strategic products, Herman Singh will be joining us. Herman headed up Standard Bank’s Beyond Payments division which launched the SPAR money trader system and the country’s most sophisticated NFC payment transit system, prior to joining Vodacom. Herman played a major role in the move towards digital as part of the team that launched Internet banking in 2000 and mobile banking in 2001. In 2004, he was involved in building MTN Banking, the mobile service provider’s banking service.
As mentioned, we are taking on the subject of Mobile Payments in a big way and we will be announcing more speakers and event details over the coming weeks, but for now, make sure you REGISTER your place to attend this event as we expect places to go fast!
